International art competition "MIRADAS INTERNATIONAL ART CONTEST 2023" (ATTENTION!!! Change of deadline for submission of works)

Prof. Andrzej Grzybowski, D.Sc., Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Warmia and Mazury, Head of the Institute of Ophthalmic Research, was invited to join the committee in the prestigious competition Miradas International Art Contest 2023. It is a competition for artists from all over the world with the aim of drawing public attention through art to the problems of ophthalmic care, the care of good eyesight and the prevention of blindness. The competition is held every two years and dates back to 1998. In 2004, the Spanish edition was joined by Latin America and in 2016 by the whole world (22 countries from different continents - the works can be viewed at www.miradasinternational.com). It is organised by the Prof Jorge Alió* Foundation.

Miradas International Art Contest 2023 consists of. 2 stages, in which Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, China, Egypt, Greece, Israel, Colombia, Costa Rica, Kuwait, Mexico, Germany, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Turkey, United Kingdom, Italy, Uruguay and the USA are participating. To begin with, each expert on the committee collects work from his or her country, and then selects one to three works and presents them to the jury by uploading their photos to a special portal. The second stage is the selection of the best work - each committee votes for 1 painting of their choice, but cannot vote for a work from their own country.

The artwork with the most votes wins. A photo of the best work will be published on the cover of the prestigious Journal of Refractive Surgery, and the artist will receive a cash prize.

In the past, the winning images have also been repeatedly published in the pages of other journals, ophthalmology books and even in graphic invitation material for world congresses, which only proves the potential for the worlds of art and science to intermingle.

Grand prize: 4000$
